I put out the hummingbird feeder today.
Boiled up some sugar and water and waited for the little addicts to show up for their fix.
I noticed the first one within two hours. By evening there were three at the feeder, flirting and jockeying for position.
Karin said, “I didn’t even know we had hummingbirds around here.”
I understand why.
You rarely see hummingbirds while you’re out walking or driving. They don’t just hang out in trees calling attention to themselves with a beautiful song. They’re not like the robins who just bounce around the lawn, looking for worms.
And yet while they are not visibile, clearly they are all around us.
To see them, to notice them, you have to put out a feeder. In essence, you have to ask to see them. You have to buy a feeder. You have to put it up. You have to put fresh nectar in the feeder (or tend to a nice flower garden). You have to look for them to appear.
And because you ask in this way, the tiny birds appear.
Anyone can do it. You just have to focus your desire and then take a little action.
By following this simple foruma, things that were unseen, things that have always been around you but hidden, come into view.
One part intention, one part alignment, and one part action, and you can brew youself up some hummingbirds.
Or anything else you want.
My little friend from my front deck.
I love it! We love to attract wildlife here in our suburban backyard. It’s so fun to see who shows up. I have to get a hummingbird feeder. Hope my squirrels don’t mind 🙂
Love the analogy too with intention and alignment…Very awesome example I can relate to easily 🙂
Thanks for this fun post 🙂
hi Lisa
try a search on Best 1 hummingbird feeders — less than $15 and the bird dude told me they were the best

Nicely done! 😉
thanks, Erin —
where is that hike photo from on your blog?
so, conversely, that is why I saw the snake on our hike…
Lap: thought about writing about the snake sometime… so many topics!
but yes…
for others reading this, matt and i were hiking and at some point he mentioned how fearful he was of snakes. (me, i’m cool with snakes so the thought never crossed my mind)…
sure enough, on the descent, i see matt freeze in his tracks… a snake on the path… right in his path… i wonder if i would have even noticed it…
a desire, and yes just as powerfully, a fear, follow the same recipe
Thanks so much, Drew, I’ll check it out 🙂 Maybe I can catch a pic of one. I captured a photo of one in California once, so wild to catch on film 🙂
Lisa –
I set out a tripod, hit record, and went in to make a cup of coffee.
Took less than a minute for that one to show up!
This really hit me in the homeland, I mean, wow, it really got me to thinking.
Hummingbirds=single men, all around but you don’t notice them until you set out the bait…Sugar juice—um what kind of bait do ya use with men exactly? Kidding.
Candy motivates me sometimes, hmmmm.
Can you tell I live in a small town and I know nearly every soul here? Travel, that’s what I need to do, along with figuring out what kind of bait I need to stock up on…
fineartist, men like a form of sugar water, often called “beer”
just set out a nice cold, imported brew on your porch and see who shows up.
a nice microbrew can work as well
😉

Cool. That red-winged blackbird call made me powerful homesick.
Neddy, makes for a nice sound effect, no?
They’re at the (other) feeder now…
Drew;
Red salvias are also excellent hummingbird atttractants.
