Fair play to those who dare to dream

January 28, 2009 drewrozell 1 Comment

We finally got to my pick in the Netflix queue last night, an Irish indie film shot for $100K called “Once.”

Thanks to the Gordonator for his recommendation of this beautiful, touching film. It’s billed as a musical and the entire movie is a conversation of song.

I bought the soundtrack this morning and looked up one of the more powerful songs on YouTube.

You can listen for yourself below. Doing some more research, I discovered that the song won the Oscar for the best original song. Especially moving was the musicians’ acceptance speeches (after the woman gets cut off, Jon Stewart calls her back, so wait for it.)

Fair play to those who dare to dream…

Here’s the song

Go here for the Oscars. Well worth it!

It really is a special film, a great story, believable characters, and if you like the way that words become song or melodies become conversations, i have never been as moved by a movie. Chills, tears, laughs, passion. I’m pleased Drew, that you were able to see it. I recommend that everyone see it, and tell their friends. And so on.
