A recipe for hummingbirds

May 27, 2009 drewrozell 13 Comments

I put out the hummingbird feeder today.

Boiled up some sugar and water and waited for the little addicts to show up for their fix.

I noticed the first one within two hours. By evening there were three at the feeder, flirting and jockeying for position.

Karin said, “I didn’t even know we had hummingbirds around here.”

I understand why.

You rarely see hummingbirds while you’re out walking or driving. They don’t just hang out in trees calling attention to themselves with a beautiful song. They’re not like the robins who just bounce around the lawn, looking for  worms.

And yet while they are not visibile, clearly they are all around us.

To see them, to notice them, you have to put out a feeder. In essence, you have to ask to see them. You have to buy a feeder. You have to put it up. You have to put fresh nectar in the feeder (or tend to a nice flower garden). You have to look for them to appear.

And because you ask in this way, the tiny birds appear.

Anyone can do it. You just have to focus your desire and then take a little action.

By following this simple foruma, things that were unseen, things that have always been around you but hidden, come into view.

One part intention, one part alignment, and one part action, and you can brew youself up some hummingbirds.

Or anything else you want.

My little friend from my front deck.
